Bath Bombs with epsom salt

After an exhausting day, it’s an incredible feeling to soak in a warm tub full of exfoliating, detoxifying and moisturizing components. Especially this time of year, when the cool, dry winter air pulls all the moisture out of our skin. I encourage you to take time for yourself and mentally set aside all the cares and concerns of the day. Replenish your mind and body with this DIY Bath Bomb recipe.

Benefits of each ingredient in this recipe:

Epsom Salts-

The Magnesium sulfate helps release toxins from your body. Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and part of many bodily reactions involving your heart and nervous system. Soaking in these salts has been known for promoting sleep, reducing stress, relieving muscle soreness and a whole host of other benefits.

Citric Acid & Baking Soda-

Citric Acid and Baking Soda are used in tandem to create the fun fizzing effect. Citric Acid is also an exfoliator for your skin, leaving it silky smooth.

Kaolin Clay-

This clay is used primarily as a hardening agent. It is also used in clay masks for its skin benefits. It cleanses your pores and brightens your skin.

Cocoa Butter & Shea Butter-

Both Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter are known for their moisturizing capabilities. They are an excellent source of natural hydration for your skin, leaving it softer and smoother.

Essential oils-

Essential oils are added for an all-natural aromatherapy. They each have their own benefits. I chose lavender because it promotes relaxation and I just really love the smell!

Step-by-step tutorial for my DIY bath bombs:

Ingredients:

6 oz. Epsom salts (optional-my epsom salt had rose petals)

10 oz. Citric Acid

16 oz. Baking soda

2 oz. Kaolin Clay

2 oz. Cocoa Butter

3 oz. Refined Shea Butter

5-10 drops Lavender essential oil

Kitchen scale; large bowl; molds

1. Using a kitchen scale, measure your ingredients. Mix your dry ingredients (Citric acid, Kaolin clay, Baking soda and Epsom salt) together in a large bowl.

2. Melt Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter in microwave safe bowl, 30 seconds at a time, until melted. Add essential oil drops to butter mixture.

3. Combine butter mixture to dry ingredients. Mix well until all the clumps are gone and it looks like kinetic sand.

4. Add bath bomb mixture to your molds. Use a generous amount, overflowing each side of your mold. Press each side of your mold firmly together, twisting back and forth as excess mixture falls out the side.

5. Allow to dry overnight. You may have to wait 2 days, depending on humidity levels. Once dry, store in an air-tight container or food storage wrap.

Time to enjoy! Drop 1 or 2 bath bombs into warm bath water and watch it fizz. Now, relax and relish in all of its goodness!

What is your favorite thing to do to relax? What other ingredients do you use in your bath bombs?
